Travis Named To Cavs' Summer League Squad

AKRON, Ohio Former University of Akron
men's basketball player Romeo Travis (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St.
Mary HS) was named to the Cleveland Cavaliers' 14-man Summer League
roster, the team announced on Wednesday. The squad is made up of
free agents and young veterans who will participate in the League's
five-game schedule, which runs July 6-15 in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Cavaliers open their summer schedule with an NBA Finals rematch
against the Spurs on July 7, followed by a game against Team China
on July 8. Cleveland will also face off against Phoenix (July 9),
Memphis (July 12) and Washington (July 14).
As a senior in 2006-07, Travis helped guide Akron to its first Mid-American Conference East Division championship since 1998 and a 26-7 record (13-3 MAC). The 26 wins tied the school record for victories in a season (1971-72 team).
Travis capped off his career by being selected as an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press the first Zips cager to do so since Eric McLaughlin earned similar recognition in 1989. He was also honored as the MAC Player of the Year and was named to the all-league first team, MAC All-Tournament Team and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 10 Second Team.
He ended his UA career ranked seventh on the school-scoring chart, with 1,491 points (122 games). He is also the program's all-time blocked shots leader (165), while his 783 career rebounds is ninth best in school history.
In April, Travis competed in the 55th annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament in Portsmouth, Va.
Travis is the second UA player to have competed for the Cavs' in
summer league play, as guard Derrick Tarver (also an Akron, Ohio
native) did so in 2005.
