Farmer Taken by Twins in MLB Draft
June 08 | Baseball
Akron junior Tom Farmer (Berea, Ohio/Berea) was selected by
the Minnesota Twins in the 20th round (632 pick overall) of the
2007 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Friday
afternoon. The right-handed pitcher is the second player to be
drafted in as many years at UA and the third since 2003.
Farmer, who missed the 2007 season with a shoulder injury, pitched
his way onto the national radar with a dominating performance in
the Cape Cod League, widely considered college baseball's elite
summer league circuit, in 2006. The right hander was named to the
all-star team while leading the Bourne Braves with a 1.75 ERA in 46
innings pitched.
Farmer (6-2, 205) dazzled during his freshman campaign at UA with a
4-3 record and an ERA of 2.97 before dipping during his sophomore
season. Regardless of his 7.92 ERA in 2006, the Berea native
recorded 87 strikeouts in 80.2 frames and has tallied 141 K's in
156.1 career innings in an Akron uniform.
