Akron T&F Competes at Texas and Duke

AKRON, Ohio The University of Akron track and field teams will be participating at two venues this weekend. One group is at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, where one UA record has already fallen, and the other will be at the Duke/asics Invitational.
The Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays began competition Wednesday, with four Zips seeing action Thursday. The event will have a full schedule Friday and Saturday. The Duke/asics Invitational begins Friday and runs through Saturday.
As mentioned above, four Zips saw action on Thursday at Texas. Senior Mike Meditz kicked things off for Akron by winning his heat in the 400-meter hurdles preliminaries. His time of 51.73 breaks his own Akron record (set last April), bettered his national ranking the event among the NCAA regional qualifiers and allowed him to advance to the final.
In the women's hammer, Stevi Large placed third with a throw of 195-8 (59.65), while Amy Lavalley registered a personal record and placed fourth with a distance of 188-9 (57.53).
The final Zip to compete on Thursday was Randall Hafner in the hammer. The senior from Willard, Ohio, placed 14th with a throw of 186-2 (56.74). While his effort was enough to be an NCAA regional qualifier, it was not better that his toss of 190-0 two weeks ago, which helped Hafner earn MAC Male Field Athlete of the Week.
