April 26 | Men's Golf
For the 10th time this season, Mid-American Conference
Golfer of the Week honors has been award to a Zips' golfer as Colin
Clemente was named as a co-recipient by the league office on
Thursday afternoon.
Clemente (Hubbard, Ohio/Warren JFK) fired off 141 strokes over two
rounds to help guide the Zips to a 21-stroke victory against Miami
(Ohio) and Kent State on Sunday.
The biology major posted a 1-under 69 at Windmill Lakes Golf Club,
which tied for the best round in the 21-man field and help propel
him to the first medalist award of his career and second GOW honor
of the season.
His efforts guided the Zips to their second-straight team title
extending the school record to four on the season. Clemente
carded in seven birdies over two rounds and secured his third
top-five finish of the spring.
He is sharing this week's award with Bowling Green freshman John
Powers as he captured medalist honors at the UD Spring Invitational
with a 13-over par total of 226.
Clemente and Powers will be two of 100 golfers that will take to
the links this weekend when Akron plays host to the FirstEnergy
Intercollegiate at Firestone Country Club. Play will get underway
on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
