MAC Soccer Championship at Akron This Weekend

The University of Akron's Lee Jackson Field will be the site of
the 2007 Mid-American Conference men's soccer championships, held
this Friday (5 and 7:30 pm) and Sunday (2 pm).
The semifinal matches on Friday will feature #2 Buffalo vs. #3
Hartwick at 5 pm with top-seed and 2007 MAC Champion Akron set to
host #5 Northern Illinois at 7:30 pm (or approx. 30 after the
completion of game one should it run long). The winner of game 1
and game 2 on Friday will meet in the 2007 MAC Tournament final on
Sunday at 2 pm.
#1 Akron (13-3-2; 4-0-1 MAC)
Won its 10th MAC Championship, shutting out its MAC
opponents and out-scoring MAC opponents 10-0
Akron currently ranks anywhere between 16-18 in the national
polls
Akron leads the MAC in goals (33), goals per game (1.83),
assists (31), fewest goals allowed (11).
Akron freshman Anthony Ampaipitakwong led the MAC in
assists with nine, ranking 12th in the NCAA
Evan Bush had a MAC-best 11 shutouts, ranking 7th
in the NCAA and 1st in the MAC in goals against average (0.548)
Akron ranks 3rd in the NCAA in shutout percentage (0.61) and
10th in the NCAA won-lost percentage (0.778)
#2 Buffalo (9-6-2; 3-2 MAC)
Had a first round bye thanks to being the number two
seed
The Bulls leads the MAC in assists per game (1.82), while
tying Akron for first in total assists (31)
Dan Bulley leads the MAC in shots (59), points (19) and
goals (8).
Bulley also ranks among the NCAA top 54 in points per game
(1.19) and goals per game (0.5)
Robert Shuttleworth leads the MAC in save percentage
(.780).
#3 Hartwick (5-5-7; 2-1-2 MAC
Defeated Western Michigan in the MAC play-in game. After
being tied 1-1 through the second overtime, the Hawks out-scored
the Broncos 4-2 in penalty kicks.
First-year member in the MAC, finished a half-game out of
second.
Hartwick was second in the MAC in fewest goals allowed with
21.
John Paul Boyle ranks second in the MAC in the goals (7) and
points (15)
Jeremy Vuolo ranks second in the MAC in shutouts with 5.
#5 Northern Illinois (7-8-4; 4-2-1 MAC)
Defeated Bowling Green 3-0 in the MAC play-in game.
Only team not to lose to 2007 MAC Champion Akron, tying the
Zips 0-0 on Oct. 13
The Huskies are second in the MAC in shots (250) and second
in goals against average (1.12).
Marcus McCarty ranks second in the MAC in shots per game
(3.06).
McCarty tied Akron's Matt
Tutich (and BGSU's Chuko Evwaraye) for the MAC lead in
game-winning goals (3).
