Gold Extends World Series Lead with 10-5 Decision

AKRON, Ohio Junior pitcher Jared
Patterson (Coshocton, Ohio/Coshocton) threw a one-hitter
through five innings and Brett Savage (Massillon,
Ohio/Perry/Youngstown St.) drove in three to lead the Gold team to
a 10-5, seven-inning victory over the Blue Tuesday at Lee Jackson
Field. With the win, the Gold took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five
intrasquad Fall World Series.
Patterson was impressive, allowing just a second-inning double to
Nick
Solitario (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth), striking out three and
leaving the game with an 8-1 lead. Sophomore Kevin
Kumazec (Euclid, Ohio/St. Ignatius) was charged with the loss
for the Blue team.
Savage walked and scored in the first inning, singled in runs in
the second and third, and tripled home a run in the sixth as the
Gold team scored in each of the first four frames. Kurt
Davidson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) provided the big blow in
the first with a two-run double and Drew
Turocy (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) added a run-scoring triple in
the third.
Redshirt freshman Brandon White (Wheelersburg,
Ohio/Wheelersburg/Kent State) hit the first homer of the fall with
a two-run shot over the left-field fence in the sixth that cut the
Gold's lead to 10-3. Sophomore Kyle
Hallett (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) followed with a home
run of his own, a solo shot, that brought plated the first of two
Blue team runs in the seventh to close out the scoring.
The Blue and Gold teams will play
game three Wednesday afternoon at Lee Jackson Field with first
pitch scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to attend this
free event.
