Zips Finish in Tenth at the Brickyard Collegiate
October 09 | Men's Golf
- After an impressive start the men's golf team finishes in
tenth place at the Brickyard Collegiate.
"Although we played a little better in the final round, our tenth
place showing was disappointing," said head coach Nick
Goetze. "We never quite adjusted to the speed and grain of the
Bermuda greens and these putting challenges put a lot of extra
pressure on our ball striking."
The Zips finished the event with a three-round total of 892
(289-306-297) strokes.
Senior Ryan Gutowski finished the tournament at 218,
two-over par. He had three solid rounds (74-69-75) and finished
first for the Zips and 24th overall.
Junior Vaughn Snyder shot 221 (70-79-72) strokes through
three rounds and was 34th place overall out of the pool of 75
golfers.
Standout senior Colin Clemente was 44th overall with 224
(71-76-77) strokes.
Rounding out the Zips scorecard is sophomore Jacob
Patte and freshman Drew Davidson. Patte shot 229 (74-82-73)
strokes and Davidson shot a 238 (75-83-80) overall.
The winner of the tournament was The University of Georgia who was
33-under 831.
"With only a three-day break before we depart for the Belmont
Shootout in Nashville, we'll have to find a way to get our missed
shots under control," said Goetze. "This will allow us to eliminate
the big numbers that have hurt our performance thus far. "
The Zips play at the Belmont Shootout begins Monday, Oct. 15th.
