Keith Dambrot Weekly Press Conference Quotes
January 08 | Men's Basketball
Below is the transcript of head coach
Keith Dambrot's discussion
with the media on today's Mid-American Conference teleconference.
Dambrot will be on the call each Monday throughout the league
season.
Opening Statement:
"We've had opportunities to win all four games that we've lost.
We're a little disappointed with that, but we know we are still an
unfinished product. We still have some things to iron out before we
are the team that we really want to be."
On preparing for Miami's slower style of
play…
"We've been through it before. We know it's going to be a close
game. There are no easy games in this league. The important thing
will be that it's a home game and we have to hold on to the four or
five point leads when we get them. It will come down to the last
three minutes."
On preparing for Miami…
"Playing Miami any night is difficult. You know you're not going to
get any easy baskets and you'll have to play with the shot clock.
Anytime you have back-to-back conference games is challenging
because each team has their own style."
On the team's different styles of play…
"We have the ability to play in different ways. We are more
diversified in our play than some other teams in the league. The
ability to play our games in different ways allows us to match up
with anyone and not really have a weak area for them to
attack."
On having nine players averaging double-digit
minutes…
"We've always been good off the bench. Last year, we felt every
player we put out there off the bench was just another starter.
This year, it's been a little difficult with getting guys who have
never played before some playing time. We need to do this because
the guys like
Chris McKnight and
Jimmy Conyers will be
really good but they just haven't gotten the experience."
On
Romeo Travis coming off the
bench…
"
Romeo Travis is a good
bench player and we've seen him in that role earlier here at Akron,
and when he played for me in high school. He comes off the bench
and gives us that spurt of energy that we need every game. We
haven't decided whether or not he'll be in that role later in the
season or not."
