About the Zips...
- Although you wouldn't know it by the score, the Zips put on a dominating performance in a 1-0 victory over Oakland Friday night. Sinisa Ubiparipovic netted the game winner with just :29 remaining for this third goal of the season.
- In addition to four shot attempts from Ubiparipovic, midfielder Elliot Bradbrook took aim at the goal three times and narrowly missed scoring on two of those opportunities.
- Akron's defense was superb in the win, limiting the Grizzlies
to just three shots, only two of which were on goal. Sophomore
goalkeeper Evan Bush was credited with his third shutout of the
season, giving him 17 in his young career which ranks sixth on the
Zips' all-time list.
- Akron committed a season-low four fouls against Robert Morris on
Sept. 8.
- Sunday's game marks the Mid-American Conference opener for Akron.
The Zips have won six-straight MAC regular season games dating back
to the 2004 season.
About the Mastodons...
- IPFW fell to 0-6 on the season with a 9-2 loss to UW-Green Bay on
Monday afternoon.
- The Mastodons have been outscored, 32-3 this season.
- Chris Moreno, Chas Parry and Josh Sommer each have a goal for
IPFW.
- This is the Mastodons final year in the Mid-American Conference
for soccer as they have elected to join the Mid-Continent
Conference in 2007.
- Head coach of IPFW is Terry Stefankiewicz. He is assisted by Mike
Harper.
Series History...
- Akron leads the all-time series, 4-0-0.
- The Zips have not allowed an IPFW goal in the four matches,
outscoring the Mastodons by a 12-0 margin.
Zips Bits...
- Freshman
Vedran Ilic made his Akron
debut on Sept. 3 against St. Francis. That brings to three the
number of true freshman who have seen time on the pitch for the
Zips this season (
Ben
Zemanski,
Rostand Erlichman).
- Of the eight goals Akron has allowed this season, only three have
come during the run of play. The Zips have caught a few unlucky
breaks, with three PK goals coming off hand ball calls, and two
perfectly-played set pieces by opponents resulting in scores.
- Akron iwrapping up a six-game homestand, with one game remaining
after Sunday afternoon's match. ln all 11 of the Zips' 18
regular-season games will be played on the Lee Jackson pitch.
- Akron went 1-1 in the preseason with a 1-0 loss to No. 10
Creighton, followed by a 1-0 victory over No. 17 St. John's.
- Both matches were part of the second-annual Westfield Insurance
Cup held at Lee Jackson Field.
-
Sinisa Ubiparipovic netted
the game winner for Akron vs. St. John's in the 71st minute off a
pass from
Jonathan McClain.
