Bush, Ubiparipovic Named to PDL All-Conference Team
August 12 | Men's Soccer
University of Akron sophomore goalkeeper
Evan Bush (Concord,
Ohio/Lake Catholic) and senior midfielder
Sinisa Ubiparipovic
(Mentor, Ohio/Mentor/UIC) were named to the Premier Development
League's All-Central Conference team, which was announced
Thursday.
The Central Conference is comprised of 14 teams that compete in
the United Soccer Leagues' Premier Development League, one of the
top summer leagues for collegiate players. Both Bush and
Ubiparipovic spent the summer playing for the Chicago Fire Premier,
which posted a 15-3-0 record and captured its sixth-straight Great
Lakes Division championship.
Bush played a majority of the minutes for the Fire Premier this
season and was among the PDL leaders in wins, shutouts and
goals-against average. In the Fire Premier's playoff victory over
the defending PDL champion Des Moines Menace, Bush came up with a
save on the Menace's first penalty kick as Chicago advanced to the
Central Conference championship game. The Fire Premier's season
ended with a 4-1 loss to the Michigan Bucks.
Ubiparipovic served as team captain for the Fire Premier, logging
more than 1,000 minutes of time on the pitch and contributing three
goals and three assists.
Bush and Ubiparipovic are back training with Akron as the No. 7
Zips prepare to take on No. 10 Creighton in the 2006 Westfield
Insurance Cup at Lee Jackson Field on Aug. 18 at 8 p.m. That game
is preceded by No. 15 Clemson vs. No. 17 St. John's at 5:30 p.m.
