Akron Golf Tied For Sixth At Rain-Soaked Rutherford Intercollegiate

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The University of Akron men's golf team finished the first round tied for sixth place before rain caused the postponement of the second round on Saturday at the 2006 Rutherford Intercollegiate at the par 72, 6,859-yard Penn State Blue Course.
Miami (Ohio) held the lead after round one with an 9-over 297 while Eastern Michigan (300) and Bowling Green (311) rounded out the top-three. The Zips finished the round tied with James Madison and George Washington at 26-over 314.
Vaughn Snyder (Massillon, Ohio-Canton Central Catholic) finished the opening round in a tie for ninth place at 4-over 76 while Colin Clemente (Hubbard, Ohio-Warren JFK) was one shot back in a 14th-place tie at 5-over 77.
Ryan Culbertson (Wooster, Ohio-Wooster) ended the day with an 8-over 80 and was tied for 42nd place while Ryan Gutowski (Copley, Ohio-Copley) and Brad Wright (Cambridge, Ohio-Cambridge) each carded a 9-over 81 to finish in a tie for 49th place.
David Addison (Stewarton, Scotland-Stewarton Academy), playing as an individual, ended the day tied for 57th place after posting a round of 10-over 82.
The Zips and the rest of the field will complete round two in the morning before teeing off for the final round tomorrow afternoon.
