OLEAN, N.Y. - The University of Akron women's tennis team earned its first dual win of the season Saturday, defeating St. Bonaventure 5-2 at St. Bonaventure Fitness Center.
Akron (1-3) scored all five of its points in singles play, getting wins at Nos. 1-3, and 5-6. Three matches took a third set to decide a winner. Tanya Gombera downed Anna Pereventzetseva at No. 1, 6-0, 2-6, 6-0. Laura Hemlepp caught Ana Delgado at No. 5, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3; and Jennifer Ales bested Jasmine Jaysingh at No. 6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Yolande Callaghan scored a 6-4, 6-0 win over the Zips' Alyssa Carlson at No. 4 singles.
The Bonnies opened play by winning the doubles point, with victories at Nos. 2 and 3.
Akron returns to action on Feb. 11 when it travels to Dayton, Ohio, to face Wright State. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST.
