Day Three Prelims Are In
December 03 | Women's Swimming & Diving
- The University of Akron swimming and diving team placed five
swimmers in the A-Finals of three different events during this
morning's preliminary action of the SummaCare Invitational.
Freshman
Kendall Karchner started
the morning by earning a spot in tonight's A-Finals of the 200 yard
backstroke as she clocked in a preliminary mark 2:08.14.
Melissa Young will swim in
the A-Finals of the 200 breast as she posted the fastest
preliminary time with a season-best mark of 2:22.65, which is
nearly four seconds better than her top-time coming into today's
action.
Senior
Danielle Beland topped 37
others swimmers to win the prelims of the 200 butterfly with a mark
of 2:04.43.
Emily Bulkowski and
Lauren Parr also posted
season-best times to join Beland in this afternoon's A-Finals.
Bulkowski clocked in at 2:09.29 and Parr tapped the wall in 2:09.34
as they finished fifth and seventh respectively.
Freshman
Cathryn Collins followed
suit, recording a season-best time of 53.75 to earn a spot in the
B-Finals of the 100 yard freestyle.
The 2006 SummaCare Invitational will conclude with the finals of
events 29 thru 40 starting this afternoon at 4 p.m. EST. The Zips
currently hold an 899.5 -800 lead over Ohio for first place.
