Baseball Announces Team Captains for 2007
November 20 | Baseball
Akron senior
Charlie Lenhard (Columbus,
Ohio/Upper Arlington) and junior
Scott Gunn (Toledo,
Ohio/St. Francis) have been named team co-captains of the baseball
team, head coach
Pat
Bangtson announced Monday.
"It's the responsibility of each member of the team to select
players who will best represent and lead them on and off the
field," Bangtson said. "I feel, along with the rest of the coaching
staff, that the team did an outstanding job of selecting Charlie
and Scott - two players who are deserving and will best represent
the University and this baseball program well."
Lenhard, one of three returning seniors for the Zips, appeared in
all but two games for UA a year ago while making 46 starts in the
outfield. He led the club with 17 doubles (tied for fifth in the
Mid-American Conference) and finished fourth on the team with a
.291 batting average. This past summer, Lenhard was named co-MVP of
the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League.
Gunn started 50 games - all in right field - for the Zips last
spring. His six home runs were second most on the team while his
three outfield assists tied Lenhard for the lead. Overall, he
batted .278 with 26 RBI.
The 2007 Akron baseball team will begin its season in Millington,
Tenn., on Feb. 23.
