Tennis Concludes Play At Martha Thorn Invite

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The University of Akron
women's tennis team posted a 3-3 record in consolation play on
Sunday in the final day of the Martha Thorn Invitational.
The three-day event was hosted by West Virginia University, and was
broken down into three singles flights and two doubles brackets,
and was not team scored.
Akron's play in the final day was highlighted by
Alyssa Carlson, who posted
victories in both singles and doubles consolation play. She
defeated Youngstown State's Kelly Culbertson 6-1, 6-3 in the
singles competition, and teamed with
Laura Hemlepp to defeat the
YSU pair of Culbertson and Tanisha Welch 8-4 in the doubles
bracket.
Carlson finished the weekend with a 5-2 record.
The Zips will compete in the Mastodon Invitational on the campus of
IPFW next Friday and Saturday (Oct. 13-14).
