Tennis Competes At Thorn Invite
October 07 | Women's Tennis
- The University of Akron tennis team resumed its fall schedule
on Friday by competing in the Martha Thorn Invitational at the
Mountaineer Tennis Complex and the RidgeView Racquet Club.
The three-day event, which is being hosted by West Virginia
University, is broken down into three singles flights and two
doubles brackets, and is not being team scored.
Inclement weather forced Friday's competition indoors.
Kerry Langworthy and Laura
Hemlepp were the only UA athletes to post singles wins in day
one. Langworthy defeated West Virginia's Colleen Speaker 6-4, 7-5
in the opening round of flight B, while Hemlepp caught Villanova's
Ashley Reed 6-3, 6-0 in the opening round of flight C.
Hemlepp lost her next match of the day to WVU's Gabriela
Blaskovicova, 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles action, the Zips' pair of
Jenna Larson and
Amy
Sherlock defeated Villanova's Lostritto and Cappellini,
8-2.
Play continues through Sunday.
