Women's Tennis Gets Four Wins In Fall Invite

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron women's tennis team scored two doubles victories and two wins in singles play in day one of its Fall Invite Friday at Hyre Park. The event, which includes Detroit, Duquesne, Youngstown State and University of Indianapolis, is not being team scored.
The Zips freshman pair of Kerry Langworthy (Harare, Zimbabwe/Chisipite Senior School) and Tanya Gombera (Harare, Zimbabwe/Gateway) defeated YSU's Whitney Thomas and Michelle Fuleky 8-4, while the UA duo of sophomore Amy Sherlock (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Sacred Heart) and junior Jenna Larson (Bismarck, N.D./Century) bested YSU's Andrea Dixon and Krystle Hively 9-7.
Both of Akron's wins in singles play came in three sets. Larson downed YSU's Irena Lanc 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, and freshman Alyssa Carlson (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) beat out Dixon 6-0, 2-6, 6-1.
The Fall Invite concludes Saturday at Hyre Park, with play scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. ET.
