Akron Head Coach Keith Dambrot
Opening Statement:
"We are coming into a time where we will be playing the hardest
schedule in this school's history. This game was good for us
because we got the win. I also got to see some guys in game
situations that I haven't been able to see yet. I've thought that
our bench has been a little light but now I know I can get some
relief in different places. I know some things about a couple of
guys that can help me down the line."
On being caught off guard about Denison:
"I will always be scared about games like that. I felt as if we
came out a little flat. When you're sandwiched between California
and Louisville, you can feel a little down and get caught off
guard.
On the deep bench:
"I really liked Zach Sowers and John Rybak. I know Goddard can
shoot the ball so if I ever need a shooter, I can use him because
I've used him before. I've felt all along that Sowers is a
tremendous athlete. I just haven't seen him enough to get the
confidence to use him in a big game. If you analyze him
athletically, he can really shoot the ball. I'm going to have to
eventually give him a shot. Rybak isn't the quickest guy but he
hustles and he can rebound which is a deadly combination."

On the game:
"It was great to see the walk ons get some playing time. I live with Nick Goddard and it was good to see him get in, and John Rybak hasn't played at all. It was just a fun game for us but it's going to be a lot different on Saturday at Louisville."
On the way the team played:
"We were so mad about California and we felt like we should have
beaten them, so we came out tonight with the fire burning. Coach
said how we play tonight will carry over into the next game and
Puerto Rico (San Juan Shootout). We needed this because we are
going to play about four high major teams in the next six games.
Before this game, I wasn't playing too good but after tonight, I
know I got my confidence back and I'm sure a lot of other guys did
too."
