AKRON, Ohio - Bubba Walther had a career-high tying 21 points in 19 minutes, and six other University of Akron players scored in double figures as the Zips routed Division III Denison 123-52 Wednesday at Rhodes Arena.
The 123 points established an arena record, and was the highest-offensive output for Akron (3-1) since it joined Division I in the 1980-81 season.
With the game tied at 12 with 8:08 left in the first half, Akron gained control with a 58-17 run and went into the locker room up 70-29. The 70 points was a school best in a first half.
Zach Sowers scored 12 points and Matt Futch had 11 for Akron, who shot 59.7 percent (46-of-77) from the floor while holding Denison (2-5) to 33.9 percent (21-of-62) shooting. The Zips tallied 31 assists on the 46 made baskets and suffered just 12 turnovers.
UA used all 14 players on its active roster, with no one playing more minutes than Walther.
Nick Dials, Dru Joyce, Romeo Travis and John Rybak each scored
10 points for Akron.

Robb Hern led the Big Red with 16 points and Jordan Krantz had 13.
Akron connected on a school-record 19-of-31 shots from 3-point range, while Denison was 2-for-12 beyond the arc. Akron out-rebounded Denison 46-29 and scored 37 points off 25 turnovers.
