Akron Golf Tied For Fourth At Big East/MAC Challenge

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - The University of Akron men's golf team, behind the play of Ryan Gutowski (Copley, Ohio-Copley HS) and Brad Wright (Cambridge, Ohio-Cambridge HS) finished the day in a tie for fourth place after the second round of the Big East/MAC Challenge Saturday at the par-72, 7,370-yard Orange County National Golf Center in Winter Garden, Fla.
The Zips are tied with Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois at 4-over-par 580 after rounds of 1-under 287 and 5-over 293. South Florida finished with the day one lead at 3-under 573.
Gutowski opened the day with a round of 4-under 68 and finished with a 2-over 74 in the second round for a total of 2-under 142 and a tie for sixth place. Wright posted rounds of 1-under 71 and even-par 72 to finish one shot back at 1-under 143 and in a tie for eighth place.
Vaughn Snyder (Massillon, Ohio-Canton Central Catholic), Ryan Culbertson (Wooster, Ohio-Wooster) and Colin Clemente (Hubbard, Ohio-Warren JFK HS) all ended the day in a large group at 5-over-par 149 and tied for 27th place.
Snyder fired rounds of 3-over 75 and 2-over 74 while Clemente posted rounds of 1-over 73 and 4-over 76 and Culbertson finished with rounds of 4-over 76 and 1-over 73.
Akron will wrap up the tournament and their fall schedule tomorrow morning when they tee off for the final round of this year's Big East/MAC Challenge at 7:30 a.m.
