Jeff Jakmides joined The University of Akron track and field program as an assistant coach in charge of throws in November 2022.

Jakmides comes to Akron after eight successful campaigns at Walsh University where he led the Cavalier throwers to six top-10 performances at the NCAA Division II National Championships, including Marcus Myers earning the outdoor men’s hammer throw title in 2018.

He mentored six first-team All-America honorees, 65 NCAA qualifiers (in every throwing discipline) and 11 individual conference champions during his tenure at Walsh. Additionally, four of his eight throwing events garnered top-10 rankings in the event squad ratings in 2022.

Prior to his time as Walsh, the Cavaliers had never seen a NCAA DII national qualifier in throws in program history. Athletes under his direction broke 11 of 12 school records.

Jakmides gained valuable coaching experience at Ohio Dominican (2013-14) and Capital University (2012-13).
Â
As an athlete, Jakmides was a decathlete and thrower under the late coach Jud Logan at Ashland University.
Â
He earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Ashland University in 2012 and an associate degree in physical therapist assistant from the Bradford School.

Jakmides and his wife Theresa live in Canton with their son Atlas.
