Will Fleming (2008-13, football)
What makes you most proud to be a Zip?
The memories of my experience.
How are you and your family doing during this time?
Adapting to a new normal and staying positive.
Any messages of hope or inspiration for fellow Zips out there during our current stay-at-home orders?
Look inward. Examine yourselves critically. Make your own decisions based on what you research, uninhibited by popular opinion and media.
What is your current job, title, ect. that are keeping you busy these days?
Graduate Assistant with Boston College Football.Â
What was/were the deciding factors(s) that brought you to Akron?
I chose Akron over Boise State because I wanted to stay home and put it on for Akron. Also, elite facilities that are up to par with many power 5 programs.
What is your personal success story?
Overcame adversity: two-season ending injuries, eight surgeries, death of two close teammates/friends, three different head coach's. I also started games on all three phases; defense, offense, and special teams.
What is it that you have learned from being a student-athlete at Akron that you will use throughout your life after graduation?
Don't blame external factors for anything. Look inward and find strength.
What is your view on the difference between playing and competing?
Playing is something you do as a recreational activity. Competing is something that consumes you every day to be the best version of yourself with focus on the task at hand.
Being a student-athlete has high physical demands, but also requires mental toughness as well. What have you done to develop both?
One speed, full speed. Every rep, every day.
