Throughout the academic year, the University of Akron student-athletes take time out of their busy schedules to give back to the local community.Â
During the 2018-19 school year, the Zips completed 7,910 hours of community services. They volunteered at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, Akron Children's Hospital, Akron Hope, Akron Marathon, Keep Akron Beautiful, Battered Women's Shelter, Haven of Rest, local churches, Education Day, Girls on the Run, Leggett, IPromise, Mason, Forest Hill, and McEbright Schools, Make-a-Difference Day, One of a Kind Pets, etc.
In 2017, UA was recognized as the Organizational Volunteer Group of the Year by the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.Â

Halo Foundation Wings of Charity Gala
Members of the football team attended the 16th Annual Halo Foundation Charity of Wings Gala, founded to honor the heroism of the passengers aboard
Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001. The players ran the auction and sold raffle tickets at the gala to raise funds for the foundation which helps with
disaster relief nationally as well as bus trips for school children to the Flight 93 memorial. [Sept. 5, 2019]

Women's lacrosse helped Akron City Schools and Seiberling Community Center with Project Rise, helping to distribute school supplies and uniforms. [August 23, 2019]Â

Men's soccer assisted in the delivery of donated canned goods from a competition between Chick-fil-A restaurants at the Haven of Rest. The Zips unloaded five trucks, weighed the goods for competition, and stored for use. [August 9, 2019]

More than 50 UA student-athletes participated in the Pen Pal Program Meet & Greet at Helen Arnold CLC. The program runs throughout the school year as elementary
students are paired with college students who write letters back-and-forth. They get to finally meet at the end of the year. [May 3, 2019]
