Game Times, Promos Announced for Feb. 16 Basketball Doubleheader

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron Department of Athletics announced on Wednesday the game times for the women’s and men’s basketball doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 16 at James A. Rhodes Arena, as the women play host to Ball State at 5 p.m. ET and the men take on Bowling Green at 7:30 p.m.
Fans can purchase a $10 general admission ticket which provides them entrance to both the men’s and women’s contests. Upper Reserved seats are available for $20 and Lower Reserved tickets are on sale for $30.
Tickets can be purchased online at GoZips.com/Tickets, by phone at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766) or in person at The C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field (located at 375 E. ExchangeStreet, near Gate 1 at the southwest corner of the venue, at the intersection of E. Exchange and S. Union streets), Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
The women’s contest will serve as Youth Team Day. Local youth teams comprised of eighth graders and younger can wear their team’s jerseys to the game and receive admission for $4 and be entered to win a basketball autographed by the team.
The men’s program is slated to give away the second installment of its bobblehead collection later that night. The head coach Keith Dambrot bobblehead will be given to the first 1,500 fans to enter the arena prior to the men’s game.
The doubleheader will also be themed Akron General Health and Wellness Day. Wellness stations featuring free health screenings, giveaways and activities will be setup throughout the arena.
As previously announced, the weekend of Feb. 15-16 has been designated as the Varsity "A"Association Sports Hall of Fame induction celebration. The class of 2012 will be honored at a banquet on Friday, Feb. 15, at the University's Martin Center Ballroom (105 Fir Hill Street).
Also during the Feb. 15 banquet, and as part of its celebration of the 40th anniversary of Title IX, Zips Athletics and the Varsity "A" Association will award a varsity letter to females who competed in a club sport at UA prior to the existence of a varsity women’s athletics program in 1972.
The festivities on Feb. 15 will begin at 6 p.m. with refreshments and socializing, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and the induction program at 8 p.m. The cost of the banquet is $40 per person and $20 for children age 13 and under. Tables of eight can be reserved for $300.
The honorees will be recognized at halftime of the men’s game on Saturday versus Bowling Green.
In addition to the Hall of Fame induction, it will also be Alumni Weekend for both basketball programs. The women’s team will hold an Alumnae Game on Friday, with check-in beginning at 5 p.m. at Rhodes Arena, and a postgame meal in Tommy Evans Lounge immediately following. Additionally, there will be a pregame event in the women’s basketball team lounge prior to Saturday's game.
