Tara Buchanan was named the Learning Specialist for Student-Athlete Academic Support Services at The University of Akron in June 2014.
She works with every sport team for the Zips to assess students' academic histories, strengths, learning styles, habits, preferences and areas where support services may be beneficial to student success at The University of Akron. Tara serves as the Liaison to the Office of Accessibility and Counseling and Testing Center.
Buchanan earned a bachelor of science degree in child development/family studies from The Ohio State University in 2002. She earned a master of education in special education from Cleveland State University in 2004.
Prior to joining the Akron staff she was an Intervention Specialist at Cuyahoga Falls High School/Cuyahoga Falls City School District in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio for three years and a Special Programs Case Manager for six years at Middle Creek High School/Wake County Public School System in Apex, North Carolina.
A native of Ohio, Tara and her husband Matthew reside in Hudson, Ohio, with their son Jaxson.
