Mary Lu Gribschaw was elevated to the Senior Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator position at The University of Akron in July 2004, after serving as the associate athletics director/senior woman administrator since January 1999. Prior to that, she served as the Zips' academic advisor for athletics for three-and-a-half years.
Gribschaw is the sport administrator for six (men's and women's soccer, volleyball, women's basketball, tennis, and softball) of UA's 19 sports. She oversees the Zips' Academic Services and sports medicine support functions. She is also the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Athletics.
Gribschaw held two positions at Old Dominion University (1991-95) before coming to Akron. She was the assistant to the vice president for student services for two years and was promoted to academic advisor for student-athletes/director of life skills for two years. She served for almost two and one-half years as dean of student services at Commonwealth College in Norfolk, Va.
A native of Pittsburgh, Gribschaw received a bachelor's degree in 1984 from Robert Morris and a master's degree in education from Old Dominion in 1993. She and her husband, Ken, reside in Fairlawn with their sons, Aaron and Aidan.
