Masai Named MAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

MAC TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK RELEASE
CLEVELAND, Ohio - University of Akron track and field freshman Brian Masai (Kitale, Kenya) was recognized by the Mid-American Conference as its Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday, Feb. 15.
The Zips picked up weekly conference accolades for the third time in 2023, while Masai was recognized by the league for the initial time this season.
Masai registered a school-record time of 13:46.76 in the men's 5,000 meters at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 11. Running the men's 5,000 meters for the first time as a collegian, Masai posted a career-best time of 13:46.76.
His effort stands as the second-fastest indoor 5K time in the MAC since 2013.
The Zips return to competition this weekend hosting the Fifth Annual Al Campbell Invitational on Friday, Feb. 17 at the Stile Athletics Field House.
