OXFORD, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team garnered a quartet of top-five performances at the RedHawk Invitational hosted by Miami University on Saturday, April 24.
Sophomore William Gross (Newfane, N.Y.) and redshirt junior Milton Wilson (Streetsboro, Ohio) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the men's hammer on the strength of marks of 212-7 (64.81m) and 195-0 (59.44).
Sophomore Davis Hedrick (Norwalk, Ohio) finished fifth in the men's discus with a career-best throw of 147-7 (44.98m).
In the women's elite hammer, senior Emily Taylor (Mount Perry, Ohio) garnered a mark of 171-3 (52.21m) to finish fifth, while senior Hannah Long (Pacific, Mo.) crossed the line in 2:17.76 to place sixth in the women's 800 meters.
Akron will host a home meet for field events on Wednesday, April 28 at Lee R. Jackson Outdoor Track and Field Complex. The competition is slated to be the Zips' final tune-up before the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 7-8, in Oxford, Ohio.
