Former Akron National Champion and 2016 Olympic Medalist Murphy Sets World-Record

AKRON, Ohio – Former University of Akron All-American and 2016 Olympic Bronze Medalist Clayton Murphy set a flat-track world record in the 800 meters at the Camel City Elite Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Saturday, Feb. 2
Murphy captured the 800-meter title breaking Mark Everett's 1:46.28 flat-track world record from 1990 in a 2019 world-leading time of 1:45.92.
Murphy is scheduled to compete in the New York Road Runners Wanamaker Mile at the NYRR Millrose Games in New York City on Saturday, Feb. 9. The race will be broadcast live by NBC nationally drawing some of the world's fastest milers and Olympians.
