RIO VERDE, Ariz. – After the opening round of the Rio Verde Invitational was postponed and canceled due to inclement weather, the Akron women's golf team finally opened spring play and finished the opening round with a 307 (+23) team tally.

The Zips currently rank 12^th among the 18-team field as freshman Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) led Akron's scoring with a 75 (+4) ledger. She tallied 13 par scores and a birdie mixed with three bogeys and a double bogey. Shah is tied for 16^th overall.

Seniors Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) and Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) followed with 76 (+6) scores. Nicholson, the two-time defending champion, carded 13 par scores with five bogeys, while Dull carded 11 pars and two birdies with four bogeys and a triple bogey. Nicholson and Dull are tied for 31^st overall.

Junior Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) and sophomore Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) rounded out the Zips' scoring with a pair of 80 (+9) scores and tied for 66^th overall.

Arkansas State leads the team scoring with a 297 (+13), while Western Michigan's Claire Hernandez currently sits on the top of the individual leaderboard with a 1-under par 70 performance.

The 54-hole event was shortened to 36-holes after Friday's opening round was canceled as the second and final round is scheduled for a shotgun start on Sunday, Feb. 24.
