Richardson Leads Zips’ Efforts on Day One of Jim Green Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Akron track and field squad opened its 2019 indoor campaign registering a trio of top-five performances, including a third-place effort in the men's high jump from senior Curtis Richardson (Blacklick, Ohio), on the opening night of the Jim Green Invitational hosted by Kentucky on Friday, Jan. 11.
The Zips garnered three top-10 efforts in the men's high jump with Richardson, freshman Nuh Andu and senior Ben Olewiler (Shiloh, Ohio) surpassing 6-10.75 (2.10m), 6-8.75 (2.05m) and 6-6.75 (2.00m) to finish third, fifth and ninth, respectively.
The men's distance medley relay team of sophomore Andre Bollam-Godbott (Brunswick, Ohio), freshman Sam Janson (Dayton, Ohio), sophomore Steven Ashcraft (Canton, Ohio) and junior Nick Stricklen (Lexington, Ohio) crossed the line in 10:05.18 to place third.
In the women's high jump, freshman Carlyn Zahner (North East, Pa.) opened her collegiate career finishing ninth eclipsing 5-3.25 (1.61m).
The Jim Green Invitational will conclude on Saturday, Jan. 12, with action in the men's long jump getting underway at 11 a.m. before running events are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. with the men's 60-meter hurdles.
