DES MOINES, Iowa – University of Akron track and field junior Matt Ludiwg (Chardon, Ohio) placed sixth in the men's pole vault with a mark of 18-6.50 (5.65m) on the third day of the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium on Saturday, June 23.
Ludwig faced early adversity in the competition needing all three attempts to clear the opening bar of 17-10.50 (5.45m).
He then bettered the bar at 18-2.50 on his initial run at the mark before eclipsing 18-6.50 (5.65m) on his second attempt.
Ludwig's attempts at 18-8.25 (5.71m) went unrewarded as he was unable to clear the mark on each of his three attempts.
Redshirt junior Jordan Latimer (Huber Heights, Ohio) and senior Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio) round out Akron's performers in the men's long jump which is scheduled for 3:25 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 24.
Additionally, 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Clayton Murphy posted an automatic qualifying time of 1:47.51 in the semifinal round of men's 800 meters on Friday, June 22, to advance to Sunday's final at 4:13 p.m. ET.
