SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of Akron track and field team garnered five top-five performances in first-day competition at the Roadrunners Invitational hosted by the University of Texas at San Antonio on Friday, March 24.
In his debut as a Zip, sophomore Rodrigo Iglesias (Logrono, Spain) registered a mark of 207-1 (63.11m) to finish second in the men's javelin, while sophomore Kamar Majid (Akron, Ohio) placed 10th with a throw of 148-11 (45.40m).
Sophomore Abigale Wilson (Carrollton, Ohio) recorded a career-best mark of 47-9.75 (14.57m) to earn a second-place showing in the women's shot put.
Junior Maurice Harris (Toledo, Ohio) and senior Phil Jagers (Solon, Ohio) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the men's hammer with marks of 181-3 (55.25m) and 180-9 (55.09m). Harris also placed 10th in the men's shot put with a mark of 50-3.50 (15.33m). Both his throws were career-best marks.
Seniors Nikki Manson (Glasgow, Scotland) and Patricia Ortega (Logrono, Spain) turned in marks of 127-7 (38.88m) and 99-5 (30.30m) in the women's javelin to place fourth and seventh, respectively.
In the team competition, the Zips' men's squad is third with 19 points, while the women's team is fifth with 13 points.
The men's pole vault commence final-day competition on Saturday, March 25, at 12 p.m. ET, before running events gets underway with the men's and women's steeplechase at 3 p.m. ET.
