AKRON, Ohio – Akron softball lost a two-run lead late in the game after a big sixth inning by the Falcons and failed to make a late game comeback as Bowling Green stole the rubber match of the three-game series, 5-3, Sunday afternoon at Lee Jackson Field.

The Zips jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the third inning. Freshman Gabrielle Fredericks and sophomore Kayla Schlosser (Erie, Pa.) drew back-to-back walks to lead. Junior Alyssa Nicholas (Cortland, Ohio) was then hit by a pitch with one out to load the bases and freshman Lilli Piper (Norton, Ohio) saw a six pitch walk to bring home the first run of the afternoon. With two outs and the bases still loaded, junior Carley Childress (Belknap, Ill.) ripped a double off the fence in left center field driving home Schlosser and Nicholas to give Akron a 3-0 advantage.
From there on out, the Falcons shut down the Akron offense only allowing one hit in the final four innings.
Bowling Green cut the deficit to two runs, 3-1, in the top of the fourth inning after a error kept the inning alive and allowed a runner from third to score.
The Falcons took over the lead in the top of the sixth inning with two big hits. BG cut the lead to 3-2 with an RBI single to right field. After loading the bases following a Akron error, Bowling Green's Morgan Evangilista hit a bases clearing double to right center field to claim a 5-3 lead.
