Strong Performances Spark Zips at Samford Open

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Strong performances highlighted the final day of the Samford Open for the University of Akron track and field on Saturday, Feb. 13, as the Zips registered six top-four efforts.
Junior Daniella Johnson (Gahanna, Ohio) captured the women's long jump with a leap of 19-7.50, while also placing fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.66.
Senior Claudia Garcia Jou (Barcelona, Spain) took home top honors in the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-10.75.
Redshirt junior Arianda Ramos Gandia (Barcelona, Spain) rounded out women's action for Akron finishing fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 39-6.50.
Redshirt junior Mike Ohiembor (Dayton, Ohio) garnered a second-place effort in the triple jump with a leap of 49-8.25, while sophomore Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio) was third in the long jump with a mark of 24-1.50.
Akron returns to competition hosting the Zips Invitational on Friday, Feb. 19, at the Stile Athletics Field House.

SATURDAY MEN'S RESULTS:
Long Jump: Terrell McClain (3rd-24-1.50/7.35m); Triple Jump: Mike Ohiembor (2nd-49-8.25/15.14m)
MEN'S FRIDAY RESULTS:
High Jump: Cody Stine (2nd-7-0.25/2.14m), Curtis Richardson (3rd-6-10.75/2.10m)
