Eighteen Zips earn All-MAC Track accolades

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Eighteen members of the Akron men's and women's track and field team garnered All-Mid-American Conference accolades when the league announced its all-league honorees following the conclusion of this past weekend's MAC Indoor Track and Field Championship in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
Earning first-team accolades on the women's side were seniors Rachel Christian (Columbus, Ohio), Brittany Funk (Jeromesville, Ohio) and Claudia Garcia Jou (Barcelona, Spain.).
The trio won their respective competitions in the women's 60-meter dash, weight throw and high jump.
Taking home first-team laurels on the men's side was sophomore Miles Baldwin (Cincinnati, Ohio), junior Shawn Barber (Kingwood, Texas), sophomore Brent Gray (Cincinnati, Ohio), sophomore Clayton Murphy (New Paris, Ohio), sophomore Mike Ohiembor (Dayton, Ohio) and senior Sean Weems (Maple Heights, Ohio).
Baldwin, Gray, Ohiembor and Weems combined to claim the title in the 4x400 relay, while Barber, and Gray took home first-place finishes in the pole vault and 400 meters. Murphy claimed victories in both the 800 meters and mile races.
The Zips also had nine student-athletes recognized with second-team honors. That list included; junior Bryce Cheek (Lewis Center, Ohio), senior Kyle Cochrun (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio), junior Alexis Cooks (Colorado Springs, Colo.), sophomore Weronika Gaudyn (Kracow, Poland), freshman Jordan Latimer (Huber Heights, Ohio), sophomore Alante Oliver (Dayton, Ohio), sophomore Matt Rowland (Bellevue, Ohio), freshman Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio) and senior Kyle Walker (Cincinnati, Ohio).
Akron closes out its indoor campaign at the NCAA Championship, March 13-14, in Fayetteville, Ark.
