ESPN Selects Western Michigan at Akron for ESPNU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference released an announcement for the addition of two games to its MAC basketball television package on Friday, which included the Akron Zips men's basketball program. ESPN selected Akron's home game against Western Michigan on Friday, January 8, 2016 to be televised on ESPNU, beginning at 7 p.m. ET at James A. Rhodes Arena.
In addition, CBS Sports Network will air the Buffalo at Kent State game on the same night, beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.
MAC play will open league-wide on Tues., Jan. 5, as the Zips travel to Buffalo for its first league contest. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be televised on American Sports Network (ASN) and ESPN3. Akron posted a 1-2 record against the Bulls last season, winning the first meeting 75-72 at the JAR Arena while falling 67-62 at Buffalo and 68-59 in the MAC Tournament.
The Zips are currently 7-2 in non-conference action with a four-game winning streak. For the second-consecutive week, Akron was ranked No. 12 by Collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll with 395 votes (Dec. 14). The Zips were the only MAC team represented in the weekly poll, however five MAC schools received votes – Kent State (56), Northern Illinois (17), Central Michigan (12), Toledo (6), and Ball State (5).
The men's basketball team will be back in action at the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. on Dec. 21-23. During the three-day event, the Zips will play a pair of games at the South Point Arena against UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (2-6) of the Big West Conference and the Iona Gaels (4-3) of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Monday (Dec. 21) and Wednesday's (Dec. 23) contests are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET.
