RICHMOND, Ky. – The Akron Zips posted one of the better rounds of the day to finish the 2014 Colonel Classic in a tie for sixth place on Saturday.
The Zips posted a score of 313 (+25) to climb three spots to finish the weekend with a 36-hole score of 643 (+67). Akron finished tied with Bowling Green and Cleveland State. Host Eastern Kentucky won the event by six strokes with a total score of 616 (+40).
Frida Fougberg and Sara Chaves posted top-20 finishes for the Zips, ending the day tied for 12th and tied for 18th, respectively, thanks to rounds of 5-over 77. Fougberg finished with a 36-hole tally of 157 (+13) while Chaves ended the day with a score of 159 (+15).
Whitney Graff, playing as an individual, had the round of the day for the Zips. She posted a career-best round of 3-over 75 to climb 24 spots into a tie for 28th place (161, +17).
Laura Murray used a round of 4-over 76 to climb 19 spots into a tie for 37th place with a tally of 163 (+19).
Mallory Etcheberry finished play one shot behind Murray in the standings in a tie for 43rd place (164, +20) after carding a round of 11-over 83.
Sierra Everson closed out the scoring-five in a tie for 68th place (178, +34) after her round of 86 (+14).
Akron returns to action on April 12 when it travels to Bowling Green, Ohio, for the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational.
