OXFORD, Ohio -- It was a quiet day for the Akron offense as the Zips struggled to navigate their way past Miami (Ohio) starting pitcher Paige Myers in a 3-0 loss on the road Saturday afternoon.
Five different players recorded a hit for UA (20-12, 6-5 MAC), but Akron fell victim to nine strikeouts.
Erin Seiler went the distance in the circle for the Zips, allowing just one earned run as her record moved to 13-5.
Miami (18-22, 6-7 MAC) rode the performance of Myers (8-7) through to the end of the game. The RedHawks' starter did not allow a walk in seven innings.
The Zips trailed early after a three-run first inning from Miami, when the RedHawks capitalized on a pair of Akron errors. Miami threatened again in the bottom of the fifth inning with runners on second and third and one down. Despite a two-out walk, Seiler worked her way out of the inning unharmed and the RedHawks left the bases loaded.
Aside from a double off the bat of Jessica Schneider in the first, Akron was never quite able to jump-start its offense against Myers.
UA will close out the series with Miami on Sunday at MU Softball Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
