AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron men's basketball head coach Keith Dambrot announced on Thursday that Jimond Ivey (Cleveland, Ohio) and Antino Jackson (Cypress, Texas) have signed national letters of intent to play for the Zips in the 2014-15 season.
Ivey, a 6-4 combo guard at Glenville High School, earned Division I Honorable Mention All-Ohio honors as a senior. He helped Glenville to a spot in the district semifinals in 2014 after averaging 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists per game. Ivey also earned Second-Team Northeast Lakes All-District honors.
"Jimond is a multidimensional guard that was under-recruited out of high school," Dambrot said. "He is a terrific athlete with a good skill level. He has the ability to score from anywhere on the court and will give us another skilled player."
Jackson, a 5-11 point guard at Cypress Springs High School, averaged 19 points, five assists and four rebounds as a senior. He earned First-Team All-District and Academic All-District honors last season while helping CSHS to a 22-12 record and a spot in the 2014 district playoffs.
"Antino is a driven player with an outstanding work ethic," Dambrot said. "He is an excellent ball handler that possesses tremendous quickness and can affect the game at both ends of the court."
Ivey and Jackson join a Zips' squad that finished 21-13 during the 2013-14 season, earning a bid to the 2014 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.
