RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Akron Zips climbed two spots on Sunday to conclude the 12th Annual Rio Verde Invitational in 14th place on the par-71, 6,209-yard Quail Run course.
For a second-straight day, the Zips battled through illness to put together a solid round of 313 (+29) to finished with a three-day score of 953 (+101). Xavier won the team title with a 48-over 900.
Frida Fougberg ended play with a top-15 finish thanks to a round of 4-over 75 on Sunday. She closed out the weekend tied for 14th place with a score of 227 (+14).
Laura Murray and Mallory Etcheberry concluded play tied for 73rd and 83rd, respectively. Murray finished with a tally of 244 (+31) while Etcheberry carded a 54-hole score of 249 (+36).
Lina Bengtsson, after missing Saturday's round due to illness, played Sunday's round not at 100 percent. However, her round of 5-over 76 was the second-best score of the day for the Zips. She finished in 92nd place.
Sara Chaves did not compete on Sunday due to illness after playing the first two rounds. She finished in 95th place.
Sierra Everson, another Zip that missed Saturday's round, returned the course on Sunday also feeling ill. She was able to complete the final round, posting a 19-over 90 to finish in 93rd place.
The Zips return to action on March 23 when they travel to Ocala, Fla., for the MSU Spring Invitational.
