Diggs' Game-Winner Gives Men's Basketball a 65-63 Win Over Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Quincy Diggs hit a game-winning jumper with 2.4 seconds remaining to give the Akron Zips a 65-63 road win over Bowling Green on Sunday in a Mid-American Conference East Division matchup.
After BGSU's Jehvon Clarke tied the game at 63-all on a banked 3-pointer with 9.9 seconds left, Diggs hit the game winner on the other end to give Akron its 1,500th program win.
Diggs led Akron (16-7, 8-2 MAC) with 14 points to go with four assists, four steals and three rebounds. Demetrius "Tree" Treadwell posted his seventh double-double in the last eight games with 12 points, 10 boards. Nick Harney pitched in with 11 points.
Clarke led Bowling Green (10-13, 4-6 MAC) with a game-high 19 points.
The Zips opened the second half by pushing its lead to 14 (41-27), but the Falcons were able to cut it in half by the first media timeout (41-34). BGSU kept chipping away at the deficit, cutting Akron's advantage to 46-42 with 12:33 remaining.
Akron's defense led to a mini 6-0 run, capped off by a Harney fast break dunk, as the Zips regained a 10-point cushion with 9:33 to go. Bowling Green responded, using an 8-1 run to cut the Akron lead to 53-50 with 6:38 left. The Akron lead would remain three (57-54) heading into the final media timeout (3:31).
With the Akron lead still two, Treadwell got the offensive board and the bucket to give the Zips a 63-59 with 46 seconds to go. The rebound gave Treadwell his seventh double-double in the last eight games.
Clarke would tie the game on a bank-shot 3-pointer with 9.9 seconds to go, but Diggs would hold for the last shot. The Zips ran the isolation play and Diggs hit the game-winning jumper with 2.4 seconds remaining to give Akron the 65-63 win.
Akron forced Bowling Green into its first timeout of the game just 2:23 into the first half thanks to a 6-0 run to open the contest. The Zips kept the pressure on, pushing their lead to 11 points (21-10) before the under-8 media timeout.
The Zips would continue to keep the pressure on the Falcons, pushing their lead to 35-21 with 2:10 left in the half, before heading to the locker room with a 35-26 advantage.
Diggs led all players with eight points in the first half as the Zips shot 51.7 percent from the floor (15-of-29). Diggs added three assists and three steals as Akron forced 12 Bowling Green turnovers.
The Zips will close their two-game road trip on Wednesday when they travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., to face Western Michigan. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. ET.
Zips Notebook: Akron has now won 10-straight and 18 of the last 19 games against Bowling Green in the series ... Akron is the 55th Division I program with 1,500 wins ... the win gives the Zips 20 wins in their last 24 MAC games played in the month of February.
