Women's Golf Drops Two Matches on Day One of MAC Match Play Event

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – The University of Akron women's golf team dropped a pair of matches on day one of the 2014 Mid-American Conference Match Play event on Monday at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.
The Zips, playing as the No. 3 seed fell 3-2 to No. 6 seed Western Michigan in the first match of the day. Akron closed play with a 3-2 loss to No. 8 Cleveland State.
Laura Murray was the top performer for the Zips on day one, winning both of her matches at the No. 4 position. She defeated WMU's Anna Wilcoxson 4&2 while downing CSU's Madeline Kaminski also by a score of 4&2.
Sara Chaves went 1-0-1 on the day, winning her first match 5&4 against Laura Moutrey of Western Michigan. She would have her match against Cleveland State's Micaela Cronin.
Lina Bengtsson earned half a point for the Zips against CSU while falling 4&2 in her first match of the day against Western Michigan.
Sierra Everson just missed a scoring result in both matches, posting back-to-back 1UP losses. Her match against WMU's Chloe Lawrie came down to the last hole while she had to battle back against CSU's Colleen Miller after trailing by as many has four holes.
Frida Fougberg went 0-2-0 on the day, falling 6&5 and 1UP in her matches. Mallory Etcheberry, playing as an non-counting alternate, won both of her matches. (8&7 vs. WMU and 4&3 vs. CSU).
The Zips will face No. 4 seed Ohio on Tuesday in the seventh place match. Fans can follow the event in real time via Golfstat Live Scoring.
