Women's Golf Concludes Golfweek Program Challenge in Eighth Place

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The University of Akron women's golf team closed out the 2013 Golfweek Program Challenge in eighth place on Tuesday at the par-71, 6,038-yard Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.
The Zips posted a round of 20-over 304 to close out the event with a 54-hole tally of 917 (+65). Campbell (862, +10) won the event by 17 strokes, with Jacksonville State (879, +27) and James Madison (883, +31) rounding out the top three.
Freshman Lina Bengtsson and senior Sara Chaves led the way for the Zips, finishing in a tie for 29th place with three-day scores of 228 (+15). Both Bengtsson and Chaves posted rounds of 3-over 74 on Tuesday.
Sophomore Frida Fougberg struggled on the final day, carding a 10-over 81 to finish tied for 32nd place with a tally of 230 (+17).
Junior Laura Murray used a second-consecutive round of 5-over 76 to move up the leaderboard to finish tied for 36th place (232, +19).
Sophomore Sierra Everson rounded out the scoring-five in a tie for 46th place (241, +28) after posting a round of 80 (+9).
The Zips finished sixth overall in the Golfweek Program Challenge with a combined score of 1,773 (+57). The men's squad won their event with a score of 8-under 856. Campbell (1,742, +25) beat Jacksonville State (1,743, +26) for the program title.
The women's squad returns to action on Friday, Sept. 27, when they travel to State College, Pa., for the Nittany Lion Invitational.
