CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced on Friday that the Akron Zips' regular-season finale against Kent State will air on ESPN2 on Friday, March 8, as part of the league's national television package.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET at James A. Rhodes Arena, with Senior Day festivities to take place before the game for seniors Chauncey Gilliam, Zeke Marshall and Brian Walsh.
These two neighborhood rivals will face off before a televised audience for a league-best 24th-straight contest. The game will also serve as game two for both programs in the PNC Wagon Wheel Challenge, with the winner earning half a point in the overall standings.
The game will be the 16th on TV for the Zips this season and will be a rematch of Akron's 71-67 win at Kent State on Jan. 19, which aired on ESPNU. That win extended the Zips' winning streak in the series to five games.
Akron (20-4, 11-0 MAC) is 8-3 on television so far this season and currently holds the nation's longest active winning streak (16). The added ESPN2 game will put the Zips on TV for the 11th time in a 14-game stretch.
Fans wishing to obtain tickets for the game can do so by purchasing a three-game mini plan. General admission ($30) and upper reserved ($48) plans remain, which include a ticket to three of Akron's four remaining home games (Bowling Green, North Dakota State, Miami, Kent State) and an Akron Zips winter hat. Single-game tickets for Kent State will go on sale on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m.
Fans can purchase their mini plan online at ZipsTickets.com, by phone at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766) or in person at The C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field (located at 375 E. Exchange Street, near Gate 1 at the southwest corner of the venue, at the intersection of E. Exchange and S. Union streets), Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Zips Athletics will also distribute a block of tickets to UA students for the Kent State game, similar to the Ohio contest earlier this month. Normally students receive admission to men's basketball games for free by just showing their Zip Card at the northwest entrance to James A. Rhodes Arena, but FREE tickets are being distributed in advance of this game due to the expected capacity crowd.
More information on when and where students can pick up their ticket will be announced next week.
The Zips put their 16-game winning streak on the line this Saturday when they play host to Bowling Green at 7:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and see the women's team (16-7, 7-3 MAC) take on Ball State at 5 p.m. as part of the Zips basketball doubleheader.
Season ticket holders for both men's and women's basketball will be admitted to the doubleheader. Fans who purchase single-game tickets to the men's game in advance will be admitted to the women's game as well. Tommy Evans Lounge will be open between both games, as well as halftime of the men's game.
