Peoples Posts Huge Mark In Long Jump At Penn Relays

AKRON, Ohio – With Zips competing at three different meets across the country this weekend, University of Akron senior Tyshaun Peoples grabbed the spotlight Friday with a huge mark in the long jump at the Penn Relays.
Competing in the championship division, Peoples went 25-06.25 to record a personal record and post a top-10 mark nationally while finishing third overall. With the mark, Peoples, who advanced to the NCAA preliminaries in the event last spring, easily eclipsed his previous best of 25-02.75, set at the Texas Relays last May.
Another UA jumper, Daryl Baptiste also shined Friday with a first-place finish in the college division of the long jump. With a leap of 24-06.50, Baptiste recorded a personal record and breezed to the win, finishing well ahead of Middle Tennessee's Cordairo Golden, who placed second with a mark of 24-01.50.
Also competing at the Penn Relays Friday were J'Lani Pryce, who placed 23rd in the championship division of the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.97, Martel Durant, who tied for fifth in the college division of the high jump with a clearance of 6-60.75, and the Zips' 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams.
Meanwhile, across the country at the Triton Invitational on the campus of UC San Diego, Brittany Funk placed 14th in the hammer throw on the strength of a mark of 178-01 while Alexis Cooks finished 20th with a toss of 162-04.
Four additional UA throwers Jordan Paul, Bo Zeigler, Carley Ballow and Emily Suciu were also in action Friday at the Ashland Alumni Open. Check back to GoZips.com once results have been posted. All three meets will conclude Saturday.
