Akron closed out the season with a 22-12 record (13-3 Mid-American Conference) and captured the first MAC regular season title in program history. The Zips advanced to their sixth-straight MAC title game – a conference record and second-longest active streak in the nation – before falling 64-63 to Ohio. Akron appeared in its fifth NIT, third under head coach Keith Dambrot, falling 76-74 to Northwestern in the first round.
The season also saw a number of team and individual milestones and achievements, including the Zips winning 20 games for the seventh-consecutive season, one of just 17 teams in the Division I ranks to currently boast the achievement. Junior center Zeke Marshall was named MAC Defensive Player of the Year while junior forward Quincy Diggs earned MAC Sixth Man of the Year accolades.
Marshall broke the career blocked shots record with 246 career swats while sophomore Alex Abreu broke the sophomore assists record (149) and moved into the top-10 in the career assists category. Both Marshall and Abreu earned Second-Team All-MAC honors while Cvetinovic was named Third-team All-MAC.
Cvetinovic became the 39th player in program history to record 1,000 career points, finishing his Akron career with 1,158 points, 25th-most all-time.
