Dambrot Named NABC Co-District 14 All-District Coach
March 21 | Men's Basketball
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Eighth year head coach Keith Dambrot was named as one of two All-District coaches for District 14 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Dambrot, the first Akron head coach to be named to the NABC all-district list, joined fellow Mid-American Conference head coach Rob Murphy (Eastern Michigan) as the co-district 14 honorees on the list of 27 coaches honored by the NABC. All honorees were selected by their peers and fellow members of the NABC.
"I am honored to be named an All-District coach by the NABC," Dambrot said. "This is a unique honor, as it is voted on by our peers, and is a great sign of respect among the coaching community."
Dambrot and Murphy are just the seventh and eighth coaches from the MAC to be honored by the NABC since the organization began the all-district award in 1970.
This season, Dambrot led the Zips to a 22-12 record, including a 13-3 mark in the MAC. Akron won its first MAC regular season title and advanced to its sixth-straight MAC title game, the longest streak in league history and the second-longest active streak in the nation (Gonzaga, 15).
Under Dambrot, the Zips appeared in the postseason for the fifth-straight season and for the sixth time in seven years. Akron had several players earn conference honors, including Zeke Marshall (Defensive Player of the Year, Second-team All-MAC), Alex Abreu (Second-team All-MAC, MAC All-Tournament team), Quincy Diggs (MAC Sixth Man of the Year) and Nikola Cvetinovic (Third-team All-MAC).
About the National Association of Basketball Coaches
Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.com.
