Angelina Jogasuria Named MAC Tennis Player of the Week
February 24 | Women's Tennis
CLEVELAND - University of Akron sophomore Angelina Jogasuria was named Mid-American Conference Tennis Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 23, the league office announced on Wednesday. She is the first UA tennis player to earn the award this season and it is the third time in her career that she has been so honored, also being chosen on Jan. 28, 2010 and April 21, 2010.
Jogasuria posted a 4-0 record this past weekend (2-0 in doubles, 2-0 in singles) as the Zips earned road wins at Cincinnati on Saturday and Xavier on Sunday by identical 5-2 scores. Both of her singles wins came in straight sets. Last week she and doubles partner junior Zara Harutyunyan jumped up to No. 18 nationally in the ITA doubles rankings. The duo is also ranked eighth in the Midwest region - the only MAC doubles team to be recognized on either list.
UA's pair of victories last week improved its dual-match record to 5-0, including away wins over Big Ten opponents Penn State (5-2 on Jan. 22) and Michigan State (4-3 on Jan. 28), and Big East foe Louisville (4-3 on Feb. 4).
The Zips take to the road this weekend as well, competing at Bryant, 53rd-ranked Brown and 67th-ranked Boston on Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively. Akron plays host to its first home contests of the season on Sunday, March 6, matching up against Northeast Ohio rivals Cleveland State at 10 a.m. ET and Youngstown State at 2 p.m.
