Men's Basketball Gains New Orleans Transfer Diggs
April 15 | Men's Basketball
- University of Akron head men's basketball coach Keith Dambrot announced on Thursday that Quincy Diggs has transferred into the program. Diggs spent his freshman season of eligibility in 2009-10 at University of New Orleans. UNO is dropping its Division-I status and Diggs is immediately eligible for competition as a sophomore.
"Quincy is a valuable addition to our program and fills our need for a true small forward," Dambrot said. "He will help diversify our inside-outside game. Getting a player with one season of Division-I experience under his belt and not being forced to sit him out as a transfer is an asset. He played under a good coach (Joe Pasternack) at UNO and will come to us with a nice understanding of the game."
A 6-foot-6, 195-pound forward, Diggs played in 27 out of a possible 30 games for the Privateers this season - averaging 3.3 points, 1.6 rebounds and 13.3 minutes. Prior to joining the UNO squad, he played one season at Southwest Academy Prep School in Denver, Colo., when he averaged 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds.
A native of Wichita, Kan., he attended Plano East High School in Plano, Texas. As a senior at Plano East, he earned Second-Team All-District (9-5A) honors and helped the team achieved a 26-4 record.
On Wednesday, 5-foot-9, 175-pound guard Alex Abreu (Bayamon, P.R./Central Jersey Each One Teach One Academy/Bayamon Military Academy) signed a national letter of intent with Akron. Abreu joins 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward Josh Egner (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson HS); 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward Dakotah Euton (Georgetown, Ky./Scott County HS) and 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward Michael Green (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman HS) in the Zips' 2010-11 freshmen class. Egner, Euton and Green each signed an NLI last November.
